Cyborg Soloists: Uncanny Bodies Thursday 18 May, IKLECTIC, London Cyborg Soloists presents a vibrant programme of musician-technology interactions in which performing bodies, musical instruments and novel hardware and software collide, offering three manifestations of the modern-day musical cyborg.
Drones and tones merge with the human pulse, both heard and imagined, in ‘Fourfold’ by flautist Kathryn Williams and composer Ed Cooper. Using Soundbrenner’s vibrating metronomes and their own heartbeats, the duo weave a dreamy soundscape with alto flute, electric guitar and fixed media. Active listening combines with performance and spoken word, constructing an augmented, bodily instrument. More info + tickets
House of Bedlam Thursday 1 June 2023, Kettle's Yard, Cambridge Since the group was formed in 2007, House of Bedlam, directed by composer Larry Goves, have constantly shocked, amused and amazed audiences throughout the UK, with performances that embrace theatricality, spoken word and improvisation. During the lockdowns of 2020, they recorded Enclosure, a highly acclaimed album released on the NMC label.
Their programme at Kettle’s Yard will feature works from that disc which flirt between Renaissance arrangements, disjointed earworms and skewed blues, alongside a new work by rising star composer Ellen Sargen in which the audience will be invited to witness a deeply personal dialogue between the players that delves deep into the insecurities, fears and desires of performing musicians.
