Learning a new instrument as an adult is a great way to boost cognitive abilities, reduce stress, and find a fulfilling, creative outlet.
If you...
If you...
- Played flute at school and it's been gathering dust in the attic, but you're not sure how to get back into it
- Have a child learning flute at school and you want to learn alongside them
- Want to spend your leisure time doing something new and learn totally from scratch
About me

As a professional flutist and dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience, one of my favourite types of teaching is enabling adults to discover (or re-discover) their innate musical talents.
My own flute-learning journey began with lessons from my band director grandfather, Walter Williams, when I was around nine. I immediately took to the flute enthusiastically, often practicing late into the night!
Growing up in Ohio, I enjoyed spending nearly every Sunday throughout high school playing with the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. I attended The Ohio State University for two years before being invited to study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester on a full scholarship.
Although I initially planned to stay in the UK only for my Bachelor's degree, I have now been here for 16 years! I also earned a Master’s and an International Artist Diploma from the RNCM, and in 2021, I completed my PhD at the University of Huddersfield. During this time, I built up my work as an extra player in orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Royal Philharmonic.
I'm now based in Rossendale with my husband (a composer) where we juggle our three children and active music careers. My teaching has included Bangor University, University of Manchester, Royal Northern College of Music, and Goldsmiths University of London. You can read more about my work here.
I am on the DBS Update Service, I have Public Liability Insurance, and I am a professional member of the Independent Society of Musicians. Normally, lessons take place in my home studio in Rossendale or online.
